about the teacher
Sra. Tamiko Jordan-Obregón...
I was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Rufus King Preparatory High School for the College Bound only days after my seventeenth birthday. I initially attended Marquette University before enlisting in the United States Army in 1989 and I was honorably discharged in 1999.
During that period of my life, I returned to Milwaukee and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Culture Language and Civilization (1997), a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education (2003), and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership and Administration (2004) all from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Currently, I am working on my doctorate degree in Education with a specialization in Transformational Leadership from Concordia University. I am certified in the states of Indiana and Wisconsin as a K-12 building administrator, as well as a secondary Spanish teacher.
For eight years, I worked as a high school Spanish teacher, Track and Field coach and a principal intern with the Milwaukee Public School system. I relocated to Indianapolis in 2005, and served as an Academic Dean of a small school for the Indianapolis Public Schools system and subsequently worked for 2 ½ years as the Vice President of Programs and Administration with the Center for Leadership Development-Indianapolis.
In November 2008, I decided to return to my hometown of Milwaukee, WI and I began working as a Principal at a Milwaukee Public Schools partnership school in 2009. In 2010, I founded the Center for Leadership Development-Milwaukee. In October 2013, I joined the staff of Golda Meir as a Spanish teacher, but I continue to serve as the volunteer executive director of the Center for Leadership Development-Milwaukee.
I am the proud mother of three beautiful daughters, Whitney (24), Jessica (23), and Marisela (21), and the grandmother of two grandchildren, Apollo (2 years old) and Nina (3 years old). I thoroughly enjoy fishing, writing and reading. Over the years, I have lost several friends to breast cancer, so I have am also an avid volunteer and supporter of various initiatives that focus on research and the cure.
