Hello, Hello My Beautiful Babies!
I am so excited about this year and I know you all are as well. We have just a few new people this year, but I am sure you all will clue them in quickly. Last year was interesting and even though I was not one of your direct teachers, we shared the corridor. I got the opportunity to get to know many of you...some of you a little bit more than others (time spent in the hallway). Nevertheless, do not be afraid. My bark is indeed loud and my bite is memorable; but, my goal is to provide you with the tools you will need to succeed. I will work hard and I expect you to do the same.
Certainly, I will teach you Spanish; however, you will undoubtedly get a dose of life lessons on a daily basis. On the first day of class, we will review the classroom expectations. Please know that you are not in this alone. There will be expectations for everyone who is involved in your educational process which includes me. Allow me to share with you a few of the expectations:
- Tardiness is unacceptable. I will be on time and I expect you to be on time in the morning and for every class.
- Everyone must come prepared to work. This expectation means that you will have your supplies and I will have mine. I will not ask you for the teacher's edition because I left it at home and you will not ask me your supplies. I will also be completely present and I expect the same of you. This class requires more than just your physical presence.
- Excuses are prohibited. If it is important, you will find a way. If it is not important, you will find an excuse. Therefore, I will not offer you any excuses nor will excuses be accepted. Excuses are the tools of the incompetent used to build monuments of nothing.
- Respect your classmates, your teachers/administrators and yourself.
Above, I have listed just a few of the expectations. We will create more on the first day of class, so be thinking about your expectations.
Now, let us talk about Spanish. Absolutely no one is allowed to come into the class saying what they cannot do. You have already learned one language, so you have proved you CAN do it. This first year will be focused on learning the basics. From learning numbers and the sounds of the alphabet to expressing likes and dislikes and greeting others, we will be busy. Still, the goals of this program go much further than simply speaking the language. It is important to understand and appreciate the many cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
I have just a few simple request. Preview the the first five chapters of the book (from Para Empezar to Capítulo 4) and prepare your minds for a great year. I am looking forward to a phenomenal year!
Hasta luego!
Sra. Obregón
